Well done to all our members who competed at the Mosstown Riding Club JumpCross last Sunday. The classes were hotly contended at this very popular venue and George was very close to the time in the Advanced Intermediate class and came 2nd overall. Also big congratulations to Geraldine who won the hotly contested Intermediate class, and to David who also came 6th in the same class.
Congratulations to Meredith on winning the Springtime Stakes Class at Tirnaskea Connemara Stud last Sunday. Evanne also brought home the ribbons winning the novice class and league on the same day. Meredith also came 2nd in the novelty 'high jump' just missing out on the top spot to Olivia Johns when he knocked 1.30 which Olivia went on to successfully clear on Rocky!

Castle Leslie Green Team consisting of Louise, Karen, Barbara and Samantha finished 8th on 8 faults.
Castles Leslie Red Team consisting of Jim, David, Meredith and George finished on a total of 12 faults.
Well done to all club members involved!

Many congratulations to the members placed at the 2nd leg of the showjumping league held at Castlehill Equestrian Centre, Julianstown on Sunday 6th February. Enda had a lovely double clear in the AP competition and finished 5th overall in this league class, while Evanne was unlucky just to have 4 faults in the first round.. Jim had a clear first round but an error of course in the jump off put him out of contention. David and Hilary both had faults in the first round of this Intermediate competition. In the AI Class Meredith had a lovely double clear to finish 4th overall while George had 2 fences down in the first round leaving him out of the placings.
Congratulations to all our trophy winners at our annual dinner dance. George and Jim are the 2010 winners of the showjumping trophy for their consistant efforts over the past 12 months. Advanced Intermediate Class:
2nd: Samantha Johns
3rd: Dawn Clerkin
Intermediate Class:
2nd: Jim Brown
4th: Meredith Jackson
The above results leave Jim, Meredith and Dawn in contention for league prizes so its all to ride for at this Sunday's action on home turf!
The Club Dinner Dance was held on Saturday 6th February at the Hunting Lodge. Many thanks to Meredith, Enda, Evanne, Stephen and Heather for organising a great night!
A few hungover heads made their way to Kells for the 2nd Leg of the North Eastern Regional League last Sunday 7th Feb. Following on from her success the previous Sunday at Kernans, Evanne and Bella went one better this week scoring first place in the Primary League section. Meredith also came third in the always hotly contested Intermediate League section.
There is no leg this Sunday with the next leg being held on Sunday 21st February at Cloncaw Equestrian Centre beginning at 9.30am sharp.
Please note that the leg due to be held in Ravensdale Equestrian Centre on Sunday 28th February has been cancelled.
Kernans Equestrian Centre, Crossmaglen was the venue for the 1st leg of the 2010 North Eastern Region Showjumping League, last Sunday 31st January. Although the frosty roads did deter some competitiors there was a great turnout for this leg. Our members were out in force and they didn't let the club down!
Kicking off with the Advanced Intermediate League Class, Dawn Clerkin secured 2nd place with Samantha Johns coming 3rd in the Open/Advanced Intermediate Speed Class shortly after.
In the hotly contested Intermediate League Class our very own Jim Brown secured 1st place with a superb double clear round and having the fastest speed section of the day. Our other competitors in this class was Meredith, Louise, Hilary and David who were all unfortunate to have faults in the first round. However they made up for it in the Intermediate Speed Class where David Breakey on Alfie finshed in 2nd place followed closely by Louise Flynn and Nollaig in 3rd.
The club rounded off a very successful day with Evanne McKenna and Bella finishing 2nd in the Primary League competition.
So a great start for Castle Leslie Riding Club members.... keep it up!!

The next leg is this Sunday 7th February at Kells Equestrian Centre. Also please note the change of venue for Sunday 28th February which is now to be held at Kilronan Equestrian Centre.
Well done to Evanne McKenna and Bella who won the Primary Combined Training Competition last Sunday 18th August at the National Dressage Championships.
sunday 13th september 09
Five competing members (and a few hangers on) made the journey to Annaharvey Equestrian Centre for the AIRC Horse Trials Championships. The dressage for all competitors was consistant with everybody performing well on the good ground. The showjumping phase went well for most, with Meredith, George and Paul jumping clear in their Intermediate sections, Geralding had an uncharacteristic 12 faults and Dawn picked up 4 faults in the Advanced Inter class. But it was the interesting cross country course that left its toll on our members. Dawn (or rather MJ!) had issues with the Trakaener at fence 6, and only Geraldine and George went clear of our Intermediate riders. So well done George who was the only member who finished on their dressage score and managed to finish 8th overall in his very competitive Intermediate section.
Disappointments put aside by the barbeque and craic after the cross country!! See photos on our gallery page and by Rosaleen Maguire at the following link:

There was loads of Castle Leslie support for the Lakelands Club who hosted their second annual jump cross at Cootehill. We had Sarah, Pamela, Barbara and Dawn all competing at the Advanced Intermediate level and unfortunately the AI course beat them all this time round!! However all of the horses and riders in this class got around (by hell or high water) the tough XC course and are determined to do better next year.....
The Club had better luck in the Intermediate Classes where Geraldine Reilly and Levi took first place and George Anderson and Penny took 5th which is a great achievement in a class which is always very competitive.
Enda and Archie had a great run in the Advanced Primary class and finished up 6th place overall in this class.
The ribbons didn't stop there with Evanne McKenna claiming top spot in the Primary Class. Check out all the action on the gallery page!
Congratulations to George Anderson on Penny who finished 5th in his Intermediate Section at the Mosstown ODE held at Corbeag House, Longford last Sunday. The club had a total of 11 members taking part on Sunday mainly in the Intermediate and Advanced Intermediate classes. See some pics on our gallery page and also check out youtube.com for some video that Meredith very kindly uploaded. (Search for Longford ODE).
Best of luck to Paul Hughes, George Anderson and Jim Brown who are in Mullingar as we speak competing at the National Showjumping Championships. The three amigos are competing in the Intermediate Derby and Pure Showjumping Classes so we wish them every success!!
Cloncaw Equestrian Centre played host to the NE Region Horse Trials Qualifier last Sunday 5th July. With almost 100 entries it was encouraging to see the event better supported than in recent years. We had 19 members competing at the event with the following results: Intermediate Section 1: Geraldine Reilly finished 4th, Intermediate Section 2: George Anderson finished 3rd. Primary Combined Training: Evanne McKenna took top honours.
The next qualifier is to be held at Corbeag House, Longford on Sunday 3rd August. Please let Barbara know before Friday 24th July if you wish to be entered.
Congratulations to the team of Orla, Pamela, Meredith and Pat who came 6th at the recent team dressage qualifier. The club also had notable results in the individual competitions i.e. Evanne 4th (AP), Meredith 6th (I), Pamela 3rd (AI) and Orla cam 3rd and 5th in the Advanced Open class with Soverign and Alfie.
The top 4 teams were as follows: Ashrook Blue, Border Counties Blue, Cheval and Ashbrook White.
Many congratulations to Geraldine Reilly and Paul Hughes who teamed up with Francis Duffy for the jumpcross hosted by Boyneside RC and held at Piperstown recently. They finished in 2nd place overall with Paul Hughes coming 5th in the Intermediate Individual compeition.
______________________________________________________________
The club had one of our best festivals in recent history topped only by the all boy team of Jim, Meredith, George and Jeremy taking top spot in the hotly contested Intermediate Team Showjumping. Jim also added to his tally of red rosettes taking first place in the Intermediate Power and Speed class and 7th place in the Intermediate Individual. Other notable results were: Evanne coming 8th in her section of the AP Dressage; Holly came joint 5th in her section of the AI Dressage; Jeremy came 8th in the Intermediate Power and Speed.
For a full list of all the results see the AIRC website:

The Castle Leslie Red Team finally finished fifth overall in a very tightly contested North Eastern Regiona Team SJ qualifier on Sunday 17th May at Kernans Equestrian Centre. There were 8 teams on 0 faults after the first round, and only 2 teams made it into the jump-off with the Gap of the North team eventually victorious. They will go on to represent the region in the final at the RDS in August.

11 club members travelled up to Tullymurry Equestrian Centre last Sunday 10th May for the annual 2 Phase Event. With glorious sunshine club members had varying degrees of success in the showjumping section of the event with some members sat nav giving up half way round!!! There were even more thrills, spills and mayhem on the cross country course which was well up to height but all club members enjoyed the spin as you can see!
All pics can be viewed on www.kgbequestrianphotography.co.uk

Congratulations to Fiona Gilliland (Border Counties RC) who finished 2nd in the 3'3" class at the ODE on Monday 13th April at Tyrella, Co. Down. Dawn Clerkin riding Miss Jones also finished 4th in the same class. The event which had over 160 entries from all over Northern Ireland, Donegal, Sligo and Monaghan was hosted by East Down Pony Club.
Congratulations to the team of Jim Brown (Jack and Jones), Samantha Johns (Havana Echo), Barbara Johns (Woody Allen) and Dawn Clerkin (The Sailors Girl) who competed at the team showjumping event held at Necarne last Sunday. The team finished sixth overall in a very close contest.

The show was a great success with very closely fought competitions for league places. We would like to thank our kind sponsors Equipet, who have stores in Drogheda, Navan and Ashbourne. They supplied very generous prizes for both starter stakes and league classes. We would also like to thank Niall Dunne our course builder and Heather Camblin our judge. The host clubs Castlehill and Fingal worked very hard on the day to ensure the show ran smoothly.
Castle Leslie members were well placed in most of the classes and with 6 members being placed overall in various grades in the league we were the best represented club in the region!! That's not to mention the other members that were placed in the Welcome stakes classes throughout the league!! Well done everybody!!! The full list of results is on the results page.

Congratulations to Dawn Clerkin and The Sailors Girl who won class 3 (senior 2'9") at the 2 phase event held recently at Tyrella and hosted by Downshire Riding Club.
Castle Leslie Riding Club did themselves proud on Sunday 8th March as there were ribbons a plenty for our members. The day kicked off as usual with the Primary Welcome Stakes and our very consistant member Evanne McKenna riding Bella was placed second in this class. It was second again for this pairing in the Primary League Class so they are well placed going to the Final in Castlehill this Sunday.
Here comes the boys!! was the order of the day for the Intermediate Class, with plenty of rivalry between our male riders. With Jeremy Herron riding Fernhill Nollaig victorious in the Intermediate Welome Stakes, he had a lot to live up to in the League class, but was beaten into third place overall. The results for these two classes are as follows: Intermediate Welcome Stakes: 1st Jeremy Herron (Fernhill Nollaig), , 3rd Jim Brown (Jack and Jones), 5th Meredith Jackson (Fernhill Atlantic Dancer). In the Intermediate League our boys took four of the top six placings for this class with the results as follows: 2nd David Breakey (Estelle), 3rd Jeremy Herron (Fernhill Nollaig), 4th Meredith Jackson (Atlantic Dancer) and 5th Jim Brown (Jack and Jones).
Samantha Johns has been very consistant in the Intermediate B class and with another second place at Cloncaw under her belt is definately in the running for top spot at the Final in Castlehill on Sunday on Havanna.
We had more great results in the Advanced Intermediate Welcome Stakes with Sarah Woods on her first outing on Sirocco this year with a very creditable second place, Her sister Joyce riding Cecil finished in 6th place with Barbara Johns completing the line up with a 5th place on Woody Allen. In the Advanced Intermediate League class, Joyce Woods finished a very creditable 5th place on Cecil while Sarah did the second place double on Sirocco!
Overall a great day for Castle Leslie Club members and with most of the above competitors travelling to Castlehill Equestrian Centre in Julianstown on Sunday for the final, it should be a very competitive finish to this years league!
The North Eastern region of the AIRC (Association of Irish Riding Clubs) held the Winter show-jumping League round 3 at Castle Leslie Equestrian Centre on Sunday 1st of March. The event, which ran exceptionally well, being highly organised by teams of members from the Castle Leslie Club and had competitors from many clubs in the region.
The Castle Leslie Club were honoured to have as their course designer, Mr. Raymond Jess from Dromara Co. Down, whose International standing is renowned. The eleven courses were exceptional and competitors were unanimous in their praise of his craft. He inspired the arena stewards to change the courses in record time assisted by his wife Mrs. Shirley Jess.
The 11 Jumping Classes were kindly sponsored by businesses in the Monaghan area who have close connections with the riding Club. This generous and kind support delighted the numerous prize winners on the day. More details on all of our sponsors can be found on the sponsors page of our club website: www.castleleslieridingclub.com
With the eleven classes ranging from Primary to Open in total it was a full day of activity which kicked-off at 10 am and continued right through until 5pm.
The goodwill of the Castle Leslie Estate, who not only ensured the pristine condition of the indoor arena, for this event, but who also gave generously towards the raffle prizes of Cross-country Ride outs and evening Meal at the Hunting Lodge won by Lisa from Jump In Action and Noel Cullen. The Club would also like to thank the Equestrian Store, Portadown, Heather Camblin and Jeremy Herron for their generous donations of Rafffle prizes. Photographs on the day were available from www.jumpinaction.net
The results are up on our results page on www.castleleslieridingclub.com
Some of the photos from Sunday can be found on our gallery page.
A huge thank-you to all club members who helped all day to ensure the smooth running of the show!!

Only 4 members making the trip to Killossery Lodge last Sunday. The show attracted record numbers for any leg of the league and the organisers were kept busy all day. Evanne McKenna was successfull in the Primary Starter Stakes to take top honours but two fences down in the league left her unplaced. Enda McKenna riding Archie also had faults in his Advanced Primary Class but is looking foward to competing on home turf this Sunday.
Fortunes were reversd in the Intermediate Class with Jim Brown sorching round on Jack to secure first place while David Breakey had an unfortunate 4 faults in the first round to leave him unplaced. Let's look forward to a big turnout of club members for our leg this Sunday 1st March.
1st Leg of NE Region Showjumping League
Sunday 25th January 2009
With very frosty conditions the day before in Kernans Equestrian Centre, and snow on the morning of the competition, giving way to lovely sunshine all day, it was also a mixed bag of results for the club in the first leg of the NE Region Showjumping League. We got off to a very good start with the very consistant Evanne McKenna coming 2nd in the Primary Class on Bella. Her better half Enda was right on the time for the Advanced Primary Class on Archie but an unfortunate fence down in the second round left him unplaced in what was a very competitive class.
Samantha Johns had two lovely clear rounds in the Intermediate B/Green Horse class which gave her and Havanna their first red rosette of the year!! The first of many for this new partnership we hope!!
We had an all male star cast in the Intermediate class at Kernans, with Meredith Jackson being first to jump for the club. A lovely display of jumping from Fernhill Atlantic Dancer but an unusual fence down in the jump-off round left him unplaced. A very nervous Jeremy Herron riding his new mount Fernhill Nollaig gave great vocal encouragement to his horse on the way round and it surely paid off with a double clear round. Unfortunately his time wasn't fast enough to get placed in what is always a very competitive Intermediate competition. Jim Brown riding his very consistant horse Jack was unlucky to have fence 3 down in the first round, but better luck next time. However it was our very own David Breakey who got the biggest vocal encouragement from all club members as he and his horse Estelle powered their way round the Intermediate course with a great jump-off time, which eventually left them in 2nd place overall!!! Well done!!
With only two members jumping in the Advanced Intermediate Class, it was unfortunate that both Barbara Johns on Woody Allen and Dawn Clerkin riding The Sailors Girl both had 8 faults in their first rounds, but with both horses jumping well. Better luck next time!!
Well done to all our members and see you at the next leg at Cloncaw Equestrian Centre, Glaslough on 8th February!!
